  Energy bars for the hiker

Ingredients :

  • 3 cups oatmeal
  • 1 big can evaporated Carnation milk 2 % type
  • 1/2 cup of dry cranberries
  • 2 cups of dry raisins
  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup of peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup of unsalted peanuts
  • 3/4 cup of melted butter
  • 1/4 cup of milk
  • 1/2 cup of whole weat flour
  • 1/2 cup of cereals like : All Bran or Bran Flake or Rice Krispies
  • 1/2 cup of sesame seeds

Method :

  • Put all the ingredients BUT THE MILK in a mixing bol, mix;
  • Add the milk in the bowl, one spoon at a time;
  • Lightly press the mix in a 13X10 po greased pyrex with a spatula;
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 325F during 20-25 minutes, the top will be slightly brown;
  • Cold completly before cutting in bars.

Important

  • Do not reduce the quantity of butter
  • Will give you around 16 bars;
  • Can be freezed but will appear softer after;
  • Wrap individually in a plastic film (like Saran Wrap) to be packed in lunches or  backpacks.
